Pacific Seahorse (GPS02)
Pacific Seahorse (GPS02)
This Seahorse actually posed just like this at the Oregon Coast Aquarium for me! Striking the quintessential seahorse presentation, this delicate creature hung there in the water long enough for me to be completely in awe and to snap a good picture to use as a guide for this print.
Artistic license was taken with the coloring of this particular print as the original was shades of orange. Having visited since, I did come across some grey-green examples that were closer to this one. These graceful dancers in the seagrass and corals continue to conjure awe with their intricate detailed bodies that have unusual physiology such as the male carrying and giving birth to the young. Their genus is hippocampus which is also the name of the part of the human brain that plays a major role in learning and memory.
This print block was hand carved from locally sourced Hemlock wood by Karen Britt. To achieve the color blend, every color is hand applied, all at once, like a painting. 100% cotton rag paper is then hand pressed (without a printing press) to create a unique print each time. To see the process, check out our Pacific Octopus Video. No two are ever alike and every time the block is rubbed, the grains change slightly. The piece measures approx. 10.5” x 6” with the actual printed image measuring roughly 9”x 4”. Every print comes with an info sheet about the subject and print. This print comes to you ready to mat and frame in a way of your choosing. Contact us if you wish for this print to be panel mounted and sealed (ready to hang on the wall).
