Wave In the Wood (BWW04)
Wave In the Wood (BWW04)
Everyone loves a good wave! This wave was already in the grains of the wood from which this print was pulled. Carving cajoled the image from the cross cut wood originating in the Coast Range of Oregon. Hand inking brought the wave to life, gracefully breaking in the rippling pattern of the growth rings of the tree.
There are places all along the Northern Pacific Coast where rain forests grow right up to the edges of high cliffs that plunge down to dramatic, crashing waves. The grains in the cross cut section of this tree already had the graphic suggestion of one such wave inherent in its structure. By way of hand carving, Karen Britt revealed the rest of the wave and the natural ‘bark edge’ of the tree’s shape remains around the outside. The wood block is prepared to print by hand inking each color in, all at once, like a painting. A piece of 100% cotton rag paper is hand rubbed on the block (no printing press is used) to create a unique print each time. No two are ever alike and every time the block is rubbed, the grains change slightly.
The piece was done entirely by Karen Britt and measures approx. 7” x 8” with the actual printed image measuring roughly 5”x 6”. Every print comes with an info sheet about the subject and print. This print comes to you ready to mat and frame in a way of your choosing. Contact us if you wish for this print to be panel mounted and sealed (ready to hang on the wall).
