Opal and Pearl Seas
Opal and Pearl Seas
Every couple of months, one of my precious Opals comes out to play on the jewelry bench. This Opal throws the entire rainbow, is from Australia, and is old stock (between 25 to 30 years in my possession alone). Opals and Pearls are some of the most beautiful gifts of the water. They are set in Fine Silver and surrounded by stacked and sculpted Fine Siver in a sweeping wave-like rhythm of reminiscent of sailing the high seas. At another glance, it looks like a stylized Anchor and either way conjuring thoughts of the waters and ocean from which they were born.
The entire body of this piece is Fine Silver stacked and sculpted to create the topography around the stones. The bail loops are Sterling Silver as well as the hook and loop closure on the 3.5mm Greek leather cord. These stones were sourced roughly 3 decades ago (at Tucson Gem Show) and the setting fabricated from scratch by Karen Britt. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art, because no two stones are the same and the settings are created by hand, no two pieces are the same (even the earrings). It should be mentioned that all stones are used in their natural state; never dyed or heated to change their appearance. All the metals used are either recycled or fair, humane trade verified and all components used in the jewelry will return to the earth leaving no footprint. Thank you for enjoying the art.
