Sunstone and Sandcast Fossil Shell

Sunstone and Sandcast Fossil Shell
This is the sand casting of an actual Miocene Era fossil shell, found on the Central Oregon Coast, in sterling silver with an Oregon Sunstone added for good measure. The graceful, curving body of the shell is perfectly accented with a glimmering, champagne faceted sunstone that is flush set for gorgeous effect.
This pendant is the actual size of the fossil shell that Karen found on the Central Oregon coast, being cast directly from it, and measures 20mm including bail (or a little shy of an inch) in length and 14mm in width (or 1/2 an inch). The flush set Oregon champagne sunstone measures 5mm and was mined and faceted by Karen Britt in the Standard Round Brilliant cut.
The hammered and hand crafted sterling silver chain that the pendant hangs from is 18 inches long and has a hook and loop closure. Both the chain and the pendant are patinaed to bring out the contrasts of the shell’s details and lines, the textures of the sand casting, and the textures of the hammered silver chain.
