Silver Fossil and Peridot Drop Earrings
Combining the love of marine fossils and jewelry, we celebrate a Miocene Era gastropod fossil by sand casting it twice to wear from your ears. This delightful spiraling shell was cast in reclaimed sterling silver and paired with a couple electrically green Peridots. Hammered sterling silver drops with attached earring wires keep these precious oceanic memories dangling from your ears.
These asymmetrical earrings are both elegant and fun with their long dangles and curvacious spirals. The sterling silver cast shell spirals up on one side and down on the other, both embellished with a sparkling green Peridot. The lovely lines are continued by the attached sterling silver earring wire that sleekly tethers these petite shells to your ears. The earrings drop about 42mm from your earring hole or a little more than 1.5 inches (1.6ish) and are about 8mm at their widest point. Each grassy, green peridot is 3mm and are tube set in fine silver. These shells are big on visual impact but light on weight as each earring is around 2.5 grams (a penny is also 2.5 grams for a gauge to the weight).
These little fossil shell casts are actual size; the original fossil survived millions of years in the fossil record with its fragile size, amazing! How cool to be able to wear this casting from it in memory of its fortitude against the brutal oceanic elements. After the shell is cast and the earrings are fabricated, they are treated with sulfur to oxidize the silver and bring out the contrasting lines of their curvature and details of the sand casting. Due to the organic nature of the casting process, no two casts are alike, each a one of a kind piece.
