These Nettle Jellies have sunshine glimmering on their bells with 18k Gold. Inspired by the connection of the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Range Rainforest, these jellies were carved into a cross cut of wood, hand printed and embellished with gold, then mounted on raised panel for a unique addition to your wall.

Sea Nettle jellies are notoriously beautiful, drifting creatures with tendrils flowing like long, diaphanous gowns. They get the name from all of those frilly and stringy tentacles having stinging cells. Painful, but typically not deadly to humans, these tentacles are useful catching Pollock, larval fishes, and other jellies. The print block is a cross cut of Oregon Coast Range forest wood that was hand carved with the natural shape and live edge left around the outside border of the print. To achieve the color blend, every color is hand applied all at once with brushes, like a painting. 100% cotton rag paper is then hand pressed (without a printing press) to create a unique print each time. To watch this process, check out the “Red Octopus Print” Video to see a print made before your eyes. No two prints are ever alike and every time the block is rubbed, the grains change slightly.

The print, 18k gold leafing, and original mounting job was done entirely by Karen Britt and measures 9”x 7”. The print and surrounding wood is sealed and may be cleaned gently with lightly dampened cloth. The panel sits off the wall by way of two ‘skis’ on the backside of the panel. The space from the wall is roughly 3/4 of an inch and gives great architecture to the way the piece adorns the wall. With the ply and the mounting panel for the print, the over all ‘stack’ is approximately 1.5” deep! This creates a sculptural, dynamic look to compliment your interior design and the best part is that it comes ready to hang.
