The Sunstones were collected by Steve and Karen Britt at the Spectrum Sunstone mine in Eastern Oregon. They are finished as cabochons by Karen Britt. The Obsidian is from Eastern Oregon and contains Magnetite in such a way that bands of sheen are created. The gemstones are carved by Karen Britt and are about 15cm x 12cm, the whole earring being about 33mm or 1” 1/4. They are set in Fine Silver with Sterling Silver body and earring posts. Each earring is roughly 3 grams while a penny is 2.5 grams for comparison, and a nickel is 5 grams. That’s nice and light seeing as that’s the whole earring weight, not just the dangles. Comfort backs are provided on the posts and the carvings dangle so the light can shine through the Obsidian showing off the banding.

These earrings were fabricated from scratch by Karen Britt. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art, because no two stones are the same and the settings are created by hand, no two pieces are the same (even the earrings). It should be mentioned that all stones are used in their natural state; never dyed or heated to change their appearance. All the metals used are either recycled or fair, humane trade verified and all components used in the jewelry will return to the earth leaving no footprint. Thank you for enjoying the art.
