Opal, Sunstone, and Pearl
Opal, Sunstone, and Pearl
The sun, the trees, and the ocean; does it get better than that? These three stones do such an amazing job at embodying what’s good here at the Central Oregon Coast. A Champagne Sunstone mined in Eastern Oregon is joined by a piece of Petrified Wood from the Virgin Valley of Nevada. Yes, we left the state momentarily, so unexpected. But this is no ordinary Petrified Wood (and you all know how much I LOVE pet wood), this wood has precious Opal running through it like a little river of rainbows. Below is a Black Pearl, from old stock, signifying the bond between the Oceans, the Sun, and the Trees.
The Virgin Valley, Nevada Opal and the Sunstone are from our recent mining expedition and both found by us. The Opal/Petrified Wood piece is hand polished in a free-form ‘carved’ cabochon. All of the Virgin Valley Opals that I work with, I stabilize, which means to treat them with a product that will inhibit any cracking due to moisture changes within the stone.I was so excited I forgot to get the carat weight but I believe it to be around 2 carats and the Champagne Sunstone from the Plush area is 5mm. The black pearl is from old stock purchased about 25-30 years ago at the Tucson Gem Show. The ensemble is set in Fine Silver with Sterling Silver bail loops and hook and loop closure. The pendant is hung on Greek leather, 1.5mm, 18”ish cord so that it’s ready to wear and I always imagine that if folks have a specific kind of chain they like, one would be welcome to transfer it to a chain from your own collection as well.
