Moss and Kelp Agate Earrings
Moss and Kelp Agate Earrings
Moss Agates typically have tiny, emerald green ‘trees’ inside but some even have dark green kelp forests. The top stones are classic, luscious green detailed ‘mossing’ through clear agate. The hand carved drop stones have deep green tendrils flowing through them like giant kelp in the ocean. Fine Silver Settings and Sterling Silver hold these tales of growth within stone to your awaiting ears.
These Moss Agates hail from Central Oregon where Steve and I go and find them. Each stone is about 21mm x 15mm. They were hand carved and fabricated from scratch by Karen Britt and are hung without setting so stones can glow with all available light. The top Moss Agates are 5mm and set in Fine Silver.
Top to bottom, the earring is about 35mm. The body is entirely Fine Silver and the earring loops and posts are Sterling Silver. The posts come with ‘comfort back’, barrel style holders. Each earring weighs in around 3 grams. For reference, a penny weighs about 2.5 grams and a nickel weighs about 5 grams. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art, because no two stones are the same and the settings are created by hand, no two pieces are the same (even the earrings). It should be mentioned that all stones are used in their natural state; never dyed or heated to change their appearance. All the metals used are either recycled or fair, humane trade verified and all components used in the jewelry will return to the earth leaving no footprint. Thank you for enjoying the art.
