Bee in the Tree 18k Gold (BTG02)
Bee in the Tree 18k Gold (BTG02)
Bees are precious! So this bee printed from Coastal Shore Pine is gilded with 18k Gold. The growth rings of this cross cut of wood actually had the bee’s stripes so perfectly, the bee seemed to already be in the picture before it was carved.
The honey bee, as we all know, is a very important member of the insect community. Apis mellifera is responsible for pollinating many species of flora and has provided humans with honey and wax throughout history. A bee colony, on the move, decided to attach itself to a Shore Pine in my yard. We gently placed the hive into a ‘nucleus box’ because the pine was situated in a precarious place for their well being. They stayed for 3 years happily pollinating our beach-side neighborhood. This print was created in celebration of the bees so the bee is hand cut into a cross section of a Shore Pine from our property.
The wood block is prepared to print by hand inking each color in, all at once, like a painting. A piece of 100% cotton rag paper is hand rubbed on the block (no printing press is used) to create a unique print each time. No two are ever alike and every time the block is rubbed, the grains change slightly.
The piece was done entirely by Karen Britt and measures approx. 6” x 5.5” with the actual printed image measuring roughly 4”x 4”. Every print comes with an info sheet about the subject and print. This print comes to you ready to mat and frame in a way of your choosing. Contact us if you wish for this print to be panel mounted and sealed (ready to hang on the wall).
