Sunstone Carving and Pearl
Sunstone Carving and Pearl
Just when Oregon Sunstone couldn’t get any better, enter gemstone carving! Sunstone is a popular gemstone to carve because of its hardness and gorgeous clarity. Carving lights up the already glowing stone like faceting but in a more artistic way. This piece took on the shape of a cresent moon setting into a wave or spin-drift so a precious little Black Pearl seemed the perfect addition finishing off the Sterling Silver composition.
The Sunstone is a hand carved Champagne 4.5 carat gem from our latest trip to the Spectrum Sunstone Mine . Delicate threads of silver colored schiller fall diagonally through the stone like rain. The prong setting is Sterling Silver, Fine Silver on the Pearl, and Sterling hook and loop closure on the 1.5mm, approx. 18” Greek leather cord. These stones were sourced in Oregon (except the Pearl, that’s old stock from about 25-30 years ago), hand polished, and the setting fabricated from scratch by Karen Britt. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art, because no two stones are the same and the settings are created by hand, no two pieces are the same (even the earrings). It should be mentioned that all stones are used in their natural state; never dyed or heated to change their appearance. All the metals used are either recycled or fair, humane trade verified and all components used in the jewelry will return to the earth leaving no footprint. Thank you for enjoying the art.
