Welcome to the Ozone and our adventures!
Thank you for your interest in the jewelry designs of Karen Britt. As an Oregon resident located on the central coast, the inspiration for these creations comes from Oregon’s incredible, varied terrain and the gems to be found therein. Each piece is an expression of the natural character of the stones, designed around every individual gem, fabricated by hand, thus resulting in a unique jewelry piece.
Earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets all offer different and exciting formats to showcase our Oregon stones. Settings range from spotlighting the stone with unfettered lines to artistic and expressive metalsmithing. As a third generation metal smith and jewelry artist, the designs are both based in classic approach and a wild exploration of possibilities with metal and stone.
Because Oregon is home to gemstones that are world renowned, such as the Sunstones, Plume Agates, and Thunder Eggs, Karen and Steve Britt source and mine most of the stones personally. Karen also finishes the rough stones by way of lapidary, faceting, and carving to complete a start to finish journey; from finding the stones through the completion of each wearable ornament.
In addition to our native stones, Australian Boulder Opals, Pearls, and an array of beloved gemstones such as Malachite and Turquoise will find their way into the work. These stones are too fabulous not to play with!
In the body of work, Copper and Silver create a pleasing contrast and make a colorful frame for the gems. From inlay stack rings to hammered cuff bracelets, copper is fun to wear at a wonderful price point.
