Hi.

Welcome to the Ozone and our adventures!

The Viking (Weave) is Back!

The Viking (Weave) is Back!

There’s definitely something special about the Viking Weave. It looks complex and magical, rustic and strong. The visual repetition and textures are pleasing and it has a really different feel to it than what we usually see around people’s necks, wrists and fingers. To me, the weave creates a unique, classic look that seems ageless in its allure.

Viking Weave ring with Red Dendritic Chalcedony

I had some trims of Viking Weave left over from a necklace that I’d created (that was too long and that’s a lot of weaving!). As I was twirling it randomly through my fingers, trying to think of important thoughts, and I inadvertently wrapped it around my finger. It was like an epiphany; ‘I should try a ring’! Out came the anvil and hammer (doesn’t that just sound so like a Viking thing to do?) and the weave proceeded to receive just enough blows to flatten it into a ring band.

The cherry on top of this Viking sunday was a fabulous little red dendritic chalcedony that I’d made into a wee cab some time ago. It was just waiting to become this ring. I slipped the prototype onto my hand and just knew this was just the beginning of a beautiful Viking Weave Ring love affair. This one has already been spoken for but there are many more on the way and it’s going to be especially fun to try different gauges of wire to see the different effects.

Copper 24 gauge wire and Sterling Silver 28 gauge wire.

This is what it looks like when the weaves are being woven. It’s definitely a practice in patience, but once you settle in to some monotony, it can be very meditative. Once the desired length is reached, you pull the weave through a drawplate until it’s the gauge you want it to be. If you’re having trouble picturing all this shape shifting, we’ll be making a tutorial video very soon to help your imagination. Meanwhile, keep your eyes on the SHOP as we’ll be posting new designs as they become realized.

Thanks for reading, cheers! ~ Karen
