Homage to the Trees

There are Sitka Spruce Trees viewable from almost every window of the Ozone Gallery and Ozone Studios on Yaquina Head. That is not so unusual for this section of the Oregon Coast as the old growth Sitka Spruce grow right to the edges of the cliffs that plunge to the Pacific Ocean in some areas. Sitka line the Yaquina Bay along the Historic Bayfront where the Ozone Gallery is located are plently of patches of thick growth on Yaquina Head before you get to the lighthouse. The Sitka in this piece is woodburned on to a piece of upcycled drawer divider.

These wall hangings have been an evolution of an homage to the natural woods and found natural objects from the coast. Some of the elements of the pieces are polished to bring out their colors and beauty, some of them left raw in their organic allure. Each of these wall sculptural hangings is usable; they contain a shelf, vessel, hanging, or some kind of utility that makes them more than aesthetic. We decorate them with found stones, flowers, etc., but you may use your own precious findings to make your own individual expression with these.

Art for the Summer

The June Full Moon is also the beginning of Summer this year. We've already had sunny, warm beach days this Spring bringing colorful flowers in bloom and super happy visitors to our beautiful coast (not the least bit mentioning the Orcas in the Yaquina Bay!). These colors inspired the limited edition stencil paintings of the 'Spectrum Seahorse' from the recent wood block print 'Seahorse-power'. The original live model was an orange and black seahorse in the exhibit at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Because of the creative bredth of stencil painting, these seahorses come in a myriad of vibrant colors that are back-lit from the refective nature of the steel. Every piece is hand done and different from any other. Some of the steel is smooth and others are getting treated with a grider for interesting textured backgrounds. Each one is mounted on a wood panel, screwed or bolted down, and 'floated' off the wall for a contemporary look. Come get yours for your surf shack or contemporary dwelling.

Green Stones

They say in Oregon we have 1000 shades of green. I think it's more. From the sun through an ocean wave, to the high desert sage, to the old growth Sitka Spruce, it's proper to say 'this place is easy on the eyes'. What consistantly amazes me, is that those colors find their way into the rocks here. Not just the fancy swirls through the pretty beach jaspers, but a spectacular display of mineral growths in a multitude of colors through transparent agates and other gemstones. One of my favorites is the Green Agate Limb Cast and just when I think I've found all the varieties, I find something new.

The warmer it gets, off go the layers! Having comfortable style is important so why not wrap yourself in wearable art that is functional as well as sensationally cool. Leslie Palotas hand dyes each individual piece creating waves, octopus and other graphic renderings in fabric. Because she uses awesome companies like Xylem in Eugene for sourcing of the cuts, she makes stylish works of art to wear like Bolero Jackets and Yoga Pants. Leslie has just dropped off a new haul of work, come find the perfect piece for you.

2016-04-27- Variations on a Theme

For some reason I always love wearing chokers during the summer. Maybe it's the necklines, maybe it's that we're more active so we want jewelry that isn't dangling too much. I also notice that if my choker is too high, it leaves my chest rather bare. So to kill a couple of birds with one stone, I cooked up a choker that drops down to the length of a regular pendant. WIN! I've been playing with various lengths of drop and different stones, come in and see the variations on the theme.
